A Pittsburgh, PA attorney, Marc Daffner, was due in court for trial on the morning his wife was checking in with her doctor who decided IT WAS TIME!
If you are unfamiliar with the legal system, the Court’s time is precious and attorney’s must provide the Judge with a reasonable and valid request to reschedule a court date.
His reasonable and valid request?
“Defense counsel’s wife went into labor at approximately 11:15 a.m. today, and defense counsel will be killed by his wife if he does not get to the hospital immediately.”
In other words, “My wife’s giving birth and will kill me if I’m not there!”
While the excuse was rather unconventional (yeah it was!!) it was truth in the most creative Dad way ever!!
“They say you need to be truthful to the court. I didn’t have a legal reason for the continuance, but that was the truth,” said Daffner
Mr. Daffner made it to the hospital in time to join Mrs. Daffner welcome their third daughter into the world, 7lb, 9oz Brynn.
Mommy, Daddy, and baby are doing fine.
His client, who is facing felony receiving stolen property charges was sent back to jail until the rescheduled court date.
